Tell us about your role at Bluestones One
I am a Senior Team Leader working on various accounts. I look after teams which can range from two right up to 30 or 40 members of staff. The work varies from non-food such as Boots and Superdrug, to Asda, Morrisons, and Tesco, to name a few.
How would you normally start your day at work?
If it was my first day in-store, I would introduce myself and the team to the Store Manager and Project Manager. I would then familiarise myself with what needs to be achieved throughout the project and on a nightly basis. Then, I would split the team up and put small teams into different areas of where the project is needed that evening.
What does a typical day at work look like for you?
I am currently working on refits within Dulux Decorating Centres across the country. I have a team of five, which consist of two fitters and three merchandisers. We have a brief to follow, and we do everything from building floor and wall gondolas, building warehouse racking (both heavy duty and longspan) to merchandising both the shop floor and warehouse. Throughout the day I liaise with the Project Manager, either on the phone or in person. At the end of the day, I take photographs and send them to both the client and my office, this keeps everyone up to speed with what myself and the team have achieved that day.
What do you find challenging?
It’s not so much of a challenge but a hurdle. When you work with other tradesmen on the same job at the same time, which I regularly do, it can be difficult trying to keep the job running smoothly as we sometimes need to be in the same place at once. However, the tradesmen I have been working with all work well together, which makes the whole job much easier.
What do you enjoy?
I sound really sad, but I enjoy my job. I enjoy being in different parts of the country, I enjoy being with different people and teaching them how to achieve what needs to be achieved. I enjoy meeting new clients on the different accounts we have and do.
What’s the best thing about working at Bluestones One?
You get to travel and see places that you’ve never heard of. You get to work with different people, with different skill sets.
Some days are easy and some days are hard work, but that’s like any ‘main stream’ job. If you want to work, the work is there for you. Don’t get me wrong, this job isn’t for everyone, but I’ve been with the company a good few years and I’ve always had work, five days (or nights) a week. You also accrue holiday pay (which not all companies give you), you have a pension plan, they book and pay for your accommodation, and you get a daily meal allowance, which again, most other companies don’t do. You also get a petrol/diesel allowance too, so if you drive, then you will get a certain amount paid back to you on a weekly basis. All in all, I think it’s a great company to work for.
