Case study:

B&Q Equipment Health & Safety Project

Bluestones One was proud to support B&Q with a health and safety–focused initiative designed to quickly address and resolve an identified equipment risk across a number of stores.

The project targeted locations where equipment featured a half-leg structure with a load-bearing framework, presenting a potential safety concern. Bluestones One carried out visits to all identified stores to assess the issue, complete the required documentation, and conduct thorough risk assessments.

Our team implemented immediate safety measures to ensure each area remained safe for both customers and staff, allowing stores to continue operating without disruption. Once the areas were secured, the necessary remedial work was completed to resolve the issue.

Following the repair work, all equipment, stock, and point-of-sale materials were returned to their standard layout, ensuring each store was fully restored to its normal operational condition.

Challenges

This project required visits to multiple stores during trading hours, meaning the relevant areas had to be made safe while work was carried out. Our dedicated team used purpose-built barriers to secure the work zones, ensuring safety for both customers and staff while minimising disruption to normal store operations.

The barriers were designed to be effective without being overly intrusive. If a customer required a product located within the work area, they could easily contact a member of our team for assistance. Our team members were on hand to retrieve items safely on their behalf.

This approach helped minimise potential lost sales while ensuring customers felt safe and supported as the work was completed

Results

The project was successfully completed on time and within budget, with minimal disruption to customers and store operations. Both head office and in-store teams praised the smooth rollout and the professionalism demonstrated by the Bluestones teams throughout.

This project highlights Bluestones’ ability to deliver nationwide store improvement programmes efficiently and at pace, supporting clients across both the DIY and grocery sectors.
